Warsaw: Newtown Square and old churches

In the sunny afternoon on July 14th, I flied from Vienna to Poland’s capital, Warsaw, and stayed in the Warsaw SAS hotel. In the sunny morning the next day I visited the oldest church in Warsaw (Church of the Virgin Mary, established in 1308) and the Newtown Square. On the way from the Newtown Square to the old town square I passed the birth place of Madame Curie.
Yesterday, September 1st, was the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II. The war was first started in Poland. Warsaw is a great and tragic city and was almost leveled by an alien war and the Second World War. Especially after the latter, there was no any complete building left in the whole city. It was predicted that Warsaw would disappear in the world and would not be rebuilt in at least a century. But in the present Warsaw, when you walk in the street and admire the Baroque architectures before your eyes you will be told those old buildings are all new. When you stroll in the old town and feel like you are back in the Middle Ages you will be told again this is also something rebuilt. Warsaw today still maintains the pattern of old and new towns and is called the “Green City in the World”. See Warsaw from the window of the hotel.
